We were delighted to welcome Liz Twist MP for Blaydon and Consett to Burnopfield Pharmacy, with Burnopfield proudly forming part of her constituency.

The visit provided an excellent opportunity to showcase the developments we've made since taking over the pharmacy and our commitment to expanding access to healthcare for the local community. We highlighted the growth of our NHS Pharmacy First service, our ongoing COVID-19 vaccination programme, and the introduction of Meningitis B vaccinations, all of which help improve access to convenient healthcare closer to home.

We also discussed the continued expansion of the services available at the pharmacy. Alongside our NHS services, we now offer a private weight management clinic, providing patients with access to personalised support and treatment. We are also looking forward to launching our private travel health clinic in the near future, giving patients access to travel vaccinations, expert travel health advice and other essential travel services under one roof.

During the visit, we discussed the vital role that community pharmacies play within the NHS and the increasing demand for the clinical services we provide. We also shared some of the key challenges currently facing the sector, including ongoing funding pressures and medicines supply shortages, and how these can impact both pharmacies and the patients they serve.

It was a valuable opportunity to explain how community pharmacies can help reduce pressure on GP practices and other NHS services by providing accessible advice, treatment, vaccinations and preventative healthcare. As our range of NHS and private services continues to grow, we remain committed to delivering safe, high-quality care and improving access to healthcare for our local community.

We would like to thank Liz Twist for taking the time to visit our pharmacy, meet our team and discuss both the opportunities and challenges facing community pharmacy. We also extend our thanks to our dedicated staff, whose hard work and commitment enable us to continue delivering excellent care to our patients every day.

We look forward to continuing to develop our services, investing in our pharmacy and working with NHS partners to ensure our local community has access to high-quality, accessible healthcare now and in the future.
